Professional audio on set: the detail people notice most when it fails
Audio often receives less attention than image, until it fails. An interview with noise, echo or unstable levels can ruin a piece even if camera and light are perfectly handled.
The first step is listening to the location before shooting: air conditioning, fridges, traffic, construction, reverberant rooms or shared spaces. Then the team chooses suitable microphones, placement, safety recording and ambience control.
In corporate videos, documentaries and events, clean sound improves comprehension, rhythm and perceived quality. It also helps subtitles, social versions and final mixes. Capturing good audio at source avoids problems that are hard to repair in postproduction.
What should be decided before production
The difference between a correct piece and a truly useful one is often found in the small decisions made before the shoot.
Type of voice to record: interview, talk, ambience, testimonial or moving conversation.
Main microphone and backup system in case one source fails.
Location noise: traffic, air conditioning, reverberation, audience or machinery.
